According to a latest Professional Recruitment Trend report, demand for IT professionals grew by almost 25% between 2015 and 2017, 7.5% higher than the overall growth rate for IT professionals.
The insight, based on data from Vacancysoft, indicated that in addition to Development & Engineering professionals, IT Management and IT support roles are also in high demand, followed by IT Analysts and IT Infrastructure.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, geographical distribution analysis shows that the highest number of positions are available in London, over the 24 month period to February 2017 it accounted for almost half (47%) of all IT vacancies. However of all six regions, London’s growth year on year growth was the slowest at just 0.9%.
Whilst it’s unsurprising to see that nearly half of all IT roles are located in London, it is certainly promising to see that demand for professionals also continues to rise elsewhere in the UK, such as Yorkshire & the Humber, where IT vacancies rose 14% year on year to February 2017. As cities such as Bristol and Reading, where the average of start-ups born each year are 225 and 605 respectively, continue to grow and establish themselves as international tech hubs, it is highly likely that this trend of growth will continue.
